Excessive deflection
In many circumstances, such as structural building codes, maximum deflections are specified. In complex structures, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) can be used to check for deflections under live and dead load combinations in accordance with the given standard. Alternatively, excessive deflections can be a result of unexpected operational conditions, such as those witnessed when harmonic excitations exist.
