Gear Design and Assessment

Gears are designed and assessed using the relevant AGMA codes, by calculating the bending and contact (pitting) stresses and the respective allowable stresses.  These are based on material selection and surface treatment and a number of modification factors that are appropriate to any given installation.  Service factors and power ratings can then be calculated either to meet, or to compare with the design specification.
