Structural vibration

  • Excessive structural vibration can be caused by unexpected loading conditions that originate from machinery that is vibrating in excess of design specification, or through unidentified resonant modes of the structure itself.  There are certain allowable limits as specified by international standards to ensure that damage to the structure is not caused and test measurements should be undertaken to ensure that they are not exceeded.  Furthermore, vibration levels are specified depending on the operational needs of the workspace.  Finally, human exposure should be limited to excessive vibrations and exposure time-limits can be calculated based on knowledge of the vibration levels.
