Structure failed
Although thankfully rare, a structure may fail through different possible modes, such as beam buckling or shear failure at its connections (bolts or welds). Such failures are clearly due to insufficient strength or unexpected loading. An experienced examination of the failure site is required to develop an understanding and hand calculations or Finite Element Analysis (FEA) can provide an insight into the likely loads needed to produce the type of failure witnessed.
